Baton Rouge officer charged with DWI after crash in West Feliciana Parish
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Baton Rouge Police Department confirmed Tuesday afternoon that an officer was charged with a DWI after a crash in West Feliciana Parish that left a child hurt.
Louisiana State Police responded to a crash on U.S. 61, north of La. Highway 10 Sunday night. According to LSP, the investigation determined that a 2009 Toyota Rav4 driven by Walter Lopez, 29, was going south on U.S. 61.
State police said Zaria Brown, 23, was driving a 2024 Nissan Kicks at the same time, heading north on 61. Troopers are still working to determine why the Toyota crossed the median and hit the Nissan in the northbound lane.
Lopez was seriously injured and taken to a hospital. Troopers said Brown wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and also was seriously injured. A 3-year-old passenger in Brown’s vehicle was injured, though they were properly restrained.

Brown and Lopez were arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, officials said.
A spokesperson for the department said Brown was an officer at the time of the incident and is currently on administrative leave for a current internal affairs investigation that is pending. The department said it is for something completely separate.
This is a developing story.
