Baton Rouge police arrest wanted man with ‘extensive criminal history’ after standoff
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Police arrested a Baton Rouge man wanted on multiple charges, including home invasion, battery and kidnapping, in connection to two different cases.
The Baton Rouge Police Department said two arrest warrants were out for Travis Thompson, 38, before his arrest.
In one case, he faces charges of home invasion, aggravated second-degree battery, domestic abuse aggravated assault and domestic abuse battery with a dangerous weapon. In a second separate case, he faces charges of second-degree kidnapping with a firearm and aggravated assault with a firearm.
The Baton Rouge Police Violent Crime Apprehension Team and the U.S. Marshals Task Force apprehended Thompson Wednesday night after a standoff in the 3700 block of East Brookstown Drive. Police said he “has an extensive criminal history and had recently been involved in a domestic dispute.”
Thompson was charged with five counts each for kidnapping and aggravated assault with a firearm in connection to a July 11 incident in the 8700 block of Elm Grove Garden Drive near Harding Boulevard.
Thompson reportedly threatened a shootout if his sister opened the door for police. According to BRPD, an officer went to the home regarding an arrest warrant for a July 6 incident.
Four children in the home were reportedly silenced and put inside a back bedroom. Police said Thompson left the home after the officer left.

Another affidavit describes a violent July 6 home invasion incident. Arrest documents said Thompson tried to kick in a door at a home in the 3700 block of East Brookstown Drive. One of the victims, identified by detectives as his 18-year-old niece, let him in before he reportedly punched her in the face.
He then grabbed a frozen water bottle from the freezer and used it to hit two victims, according to police. One victim told investigators that he grabbed a glass table and tried to hit her with it.
A third victim told detectives that Thompson didn’t have permission to be inside, adding that she had told him to stop coming to the apartment.
Police documents noted victims’ injuries, including that one victim would need surgery for a jaw fracture.
