Baton Rouge teen convicted in 2021 shooting that left baby, two others dead

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A Baton Rouge teen accused in a Memorial Day 2021 shooting that killed three was convicted on Friday, Aug. 23.

Ladarius Coleman, 18, was convicted on three counts of second-degree murder by an East Baton Rouge Parish jury, according to court documents.

Louisiana state law states, “whoever commits the crime of second-degree murder shall be punished by life imprisonment at hard labor without benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence.”

Coleman is accused of shooting and killing one-year-old Ja’Tyri Brown; Dewayne Dunn Jr., 16; and Reginald Thomas, 20, at the Fairway View Apartments on College Drive in Baton Rouge on May 31, 2021.

Coleman, along with David Williams, was arrested in connection to the deadly shooting after an anonymous tip was submitted to Crime Stoppers. At the time of his arrest, Coleman was 15 years old, according to arrest documents.

Coleman and Williams were indicted by an East Baton Rouge Parish grand jury on three counts of second-degree murder in October 2021 in connection to the shooting deaths of Brown, Dunn and Thomas, according to court documents.

In July 2024, Coleman was offered a plea agreement, where he would face manslaughter charges and serve 33 years in prison, but he rejected the plea.
