Baywatch being rebooted by The Mosquito Coast producers
Baywatch is getting a brand-new reboot by the producers behind The Mosquito Coast.
Deadline has reported that television company Fremantle has been developing a reboot of the iconic TV series that featured a collection of lifeguards working on a beach. Fremantle has reportedly held a number of early talks with various broadcasters and streaming services.
Baywatch originally aired on NCB in 1989 and 1990 before switching over to syndication from 1991 until 2001. In total, the series ran for 11 seasons and made stars out of actors David Hasselhoff (who played Mitch Buchannon) and Pamela Anderson (CJ Parker).

The series also starred Parker Stevenson, Brooke Burns, Shawn Weatherly, and a young Jason Momoa. The series was then given a movie adaptation in 2017, which starred Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron.
Now, the property is heading back to the small screen, although it remains to be seen what the plot or characters of the show will be like but Fremantle will hope it will fare better than that critical failure of a movie.
Johnson won a Razzie Award for the movie and later said he takes "full responsibility" for the picture.

"A sweet little GOLDEN RAZZIE AWARD for making BAYWATCH. Categorized as — A movie so rotten and shitty, you actually fell in love with it. Hey, I take full responsibility for the [poo emoji], so punch me right in the kisser for that one," Johnson wrote in a 2018 Instagram post.
Efron also had regrets about the movie — specifically about his body in the film. "I realised, when I was done with that movie, that I don't ever want to be in that good of shape again," he said.
"It was so hard. You're working with almost no wiggle room. You've got things like water under your skin that you're worrying about, making your six-pack into a four-pack, shit like that."
"It's just stupid. It's just not real. I'm happy that it worked, I'm happy that it got me through it."
