Bernalillo County begins installing speed cameras
BERNALILLO COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – Bernalillo County is in the process of installing automated speed enforcement cameras. As of Friday, nine cameras have been installed at six locations, according to Bernalillo County Communications Specialist Kristen Ferguson.
KRQE News 13 found two cameras installed on Paradise Boulevard at Radcliffe Road and on Golf Course Road between Congress Avenue and Sutton Street. The cameras are pointed in opposite directions, ensuring they cover the entire road.

The county also installed new signs that warn drivers about the speed cameras. Ferguson explained that the cameras are not active at this time and that the county will provide more information in the coming weeks.
In 2023, Bernalillo County Commissioners approved an ordinance to establish an automated speed enforcement program. The ordinance says drivers who are caught speeding will be issued a $100 fine, or they can complete community service in lieu of payment.
Law enforcement will review the evidence of alleged speeding before a fine is issued. Drivers or vehicle owners will also be able to appeal the fine and are entitled to a hearing before a hearing officer, and a further appeal to District Court.
Bernalillo County’s ordinance is modeled after the City of Albuquerque’s ordinance allowing speed cameras. So far, the city has installed a total of 20 cameras. Drivers caught speeding by city cameras also face a $100 fine or have the option to do community service instead of paying.
