Bernalillo County Commissioners pick new county manager

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A new Bernalillo County manager has been selected by commissioners. During their meeting on Tuesday, county commissioners selected Cindy Chavez from San Jose, California to fill the role. Chavez is currently serving on the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors in the San Jose area.

Current Bernalillo County Manager Julie Mrogas Baca will retire on Friday after more than 16 years with the county. Commissioners also approved Deputy County Manager for Finance Shirley Ragin to serve as interim manager until contract negotiations with Chavez are completed.

The selection of the new county manager passed with a 3-2 vote.
