Biden enlists Obama, George Clooney, Julia Roberts for star-studded mega fundraiser
The Biden campaign is enlisting former President Obama, George Clooney and Julia Roberts for a star-studded major fundraiser in Los Angeles next month, according to a campaign official.
As part of the fundraiser, Clooney and Roberts will participate in a contest that will be run across social media, digital ads, emails and texts.
The Biden campaign official said the contest’s goal is “to engage the campaign’s grassroots donors and bring in the entirety of our support network.”
Clooney and Roberts will also be featured in social media posts and digital ads and will sign emails and text messages to President Biden’s supporters, the official added.
The news, first reported by NBC News, comes as Biden has continued to outpace former President Trump’s campaign in their fundraising effort.
In March, the Biden campaign said it raised $90 million, closing out the first quarter having raised $187 million, with $192 million in cash on hand. The Trump campaign said it brought in roughly $66 million in March. The Trump campaign, which merged with the Republican National Committee after Trump became the presumptive nominee, ended March with $93.1 million in cash on hand.
Biden traveled to San Francisco and Seattle at the end of last week for a fundraising swing that continued through the weekend. The West Coast swing has raised $10 million, according to a source familiar.
The trip was announced in conjunction with a $14 million May ad buy focused on reaching Black, Latino and Asian Americans. The campaign plans to have more than 500 staff members and 200 offices open by the end of May.
