PENSACOLA BEACH, Fla. (WKRG) — The Blues are back! Everyone is preparing for a jampacked weekend at the Pensacola Beach Air Show.
It’s a highly anticipated weekend for the community and the Blue Angel pilots.
“This is very iconic,” U.S. Navy Blue Angels pilot Lieutenant Commander Amanda Lee said. “And markedly an important part of our season and for the community. We love going to the beach and flying over the water. It’s beautiful it’s great flying the air is always smooth, and there are thousands and thousands of people out there that I get to wave to and kind of say, ‘Hi.’”
Lee explained what makes the Pensacola Beach Airshow so special.
“I love being able to see Pensacola from a different view,” Lee said. “The Pensacola community really supports us and the Blue Angels here in the local community, and it’s really great to be able to get down to Pensacola Beach.”
Lee made history as the first female Blue Angels pilot.
Neighbors react to Grand Bay standoff leaving 1 in critical condition
“When I talk to people at crowd line, I always tell them, ‘Look, we’re just normal people,'” Lee said. “But it’s not lost on me what it’s like to see somebody that looks like you in a position that maybe you never thought a possibility. So it is an honor to represent and be an inspiration to so many people.”
For this year’s key influencer rider Austin Courson, the new Assistant Principal at Tate High School, he is hoping his students will channel the Blue Angels’ dedication and determination
“The excellence they strive for every single day, it’s consistency; it’s dedication,” Courson said. “They’re making sure that they’re the best at their mission.”
Friday and Saturday the beach will be packed and all eyes will be on the sky as the Blue Angels take flight at 2 p.m.
