Body of missing Southern University student found in Mississippi had gunshot wounds, deputies say
WEST FELICIANA PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) – West Feliciana Parish deputies have arrested three people in connection to the shooting death of a Southern University student.
The sheriff’s office said Steven Harris IV was reported missing on July 17. A body, believed to be Harris, was found in Wilkinson County, Mississippi. According to the county coroner, the body had multiple gunshot wounds.
Sheriff Brian Spillman announced the arrests of Derek Terrell Hollins Jr., 21, Calajia Jack, 20, and Allyah Martin, 21, on Thursday, July 25.
Spillman said all three suspects were charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. Hollins was also charged with possession of a machine gun.
“Through our investigation, we developed strong evidence that DJ Hollins, Calajia Jack and Allyah Martin conspired to lure Steven Harris from West Feliciana Parish to Mississippi where he was shot and killed. We believe DJ Hollins used a Glock handgun with a switch that made it capable of firing in full auto mode to kill Mr. Harris,” said Spillman.

Spillman said they were aware that Mississippi authorities were also planning to pursue charges.
“However, we believe the plan to commit this crime was hatched here; and the initial phases leading up to Steven’s death began here in West Feliciana Parish. In consultation with the District Attorney, our investigators submitted affidavits for these charges and warrants were signed here today,” Spillman said.
Southern University and A&M College confirmed Harris was a sophomore and criminal justice major in a Thursday statement. Officials said he was last enrolled at Southern this past fall.
No university or student-planned memorials have been set up at this time, according to the university. Students are encouraged to contact the counseling center during normal business hours. The university said information about free telehealth counseling services can be found online.
