Boy collects 500 items for clothing drive, about 10,000 items in total collected
KENMORE, N.Y. (WIVB) — Colvin Cleaners reports about 10,000 items were donated in the two ‘Coats 4 Kids’ live drives this year.
And about 500 of those coats came from a 12-year-old boy who’s been donating for seven years in a row.
Cam Higgins dropped off hundreds of items on Tuesday afternoon, saying he got friends, neighbors and family involved again this year. He sent texts and calls out to those people well in advance and then gathered them up ahead of the live drive. He also said, the Chamber of Commerce in Tonawanda got on board this year, helping to collect items.
“It makes me feel great, just to know that these coats are really going to some people who really need it,” Higgins said.
Higgins’ campaign gets bigger and bigger each year. Last year, he collected about 360 items. In 2018, he started out by collecting 150 items.
“I feel sad for these people that are here today and have died from being cold with no supplies,” Higgins said back in 2018, when he was just six.
He plans to continue this for years to come.
You can continue to donate winter items at Colvin Cleaners all year long.
