Boy George reveals I'm A Celeb bosses bowed to his demands after he threatened to quit four times

Boy George has revealed how I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! producers gave in to his demands after he threatened to quit the show multiple times.

The Culture Club star has admitted he almost walked out of the jungle four times, and his protests resulted in him winning clean socks, a water filter and a golf buggy ride back to camp.

The 61-year-old singer, whose real name is George O'Dowd, told The Sun: “I am a bit of a stomper-outer, I spent the whole of the 80s saying I was going to leave Culture Club. My manager calls it my marching, when I start going, ‘That’s it I’m leaving’.

“So I was amazed how I was able to stop myself from doing a Gemma Collins. I can remember watching her quit and thinking, ‘That could be me’."

The Only Way Is Essex star Gemma Collins quit the jungle reality show on day three in 2014.

The Do Your Really Want To Hurt Me singer went on: "Basically Sue Cleaver, who is younger than me, had a buggy back after a trial but they wouldn’t get me one... Ant and Dec have gone off in a lovely Range Rover... I’m 61, I’m asthmatic, I’m pulling that card... so I just sat in a wheelbarrow."

Boy George said he felt that as the cameras were not filming the up-hill walk back to camp there was a duty of care issue to give him a ride. So he locked himself in a shed until he was given a buggy ride, like 59-year-old Coronation Street star Cleaver, who was allowed to use the buggy for medical reasons.

The Karma Chameleon singer also admitted he refused to wear his microphone in the camp until he was given clean socks.

And he used the terms of his contract to protest about having to boil the water over the fire to make it safe to drink.

He revealed: “I was saying, ‘I’ve had a week of this, it wasn’t in my contract and it’s like torture’. After that they got us electrolytes and put a filter on the pump, so we didn’t have to boil water."

And Boy George tried to stage a mutiny after losing a Dingo Dollar Challenge to win chocolate, but persuading the other campmates to all remove their microphones off until they were given the treat.

He said: “Whenever I tried to do that, no one else was with me. I was always on my own until ten minutes later, when they’d say, ‘Oh, I was going to join you . . . ’"

The 80s pop star was the fourth celebrity voted out of the reality show, which was won by footballer Jill Scott.

MP Matt Hancock, was placed third after he received 21 per cent of the votes for the final.
