BROADLANDS, Ill. (WCIA) — It’s sweet corn season and farmers are thrilled about how this year’s crop turned out.

Michael Wendling, a farmer from Broadlands, said the moisture from the air helped out a lot. He grows sweet corn just to give it away, and he gives out thousands of dollars worth of it.

Wendling said this year’s rain was all good.

“If the rain impacted anything, it was on the good side. We’ve had good rains here this summer and we were dry for a little bit,” Wendling said. “But then we got some good rains and the later-planted sweetcorn really probably liked that. The early stuff obviously liked it as well. Any rain is good.”

Wendling said the leftover sweet corn crop has about one more week left before it has to be picked.
