Buffalo man accused of murdering wife with axe

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo man is facing a murder charge, accused of murdering his wife with an axe last month, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office said Thursday.

Antonio Prieto, 46, is accused of murdering his wife, 29-year-old Elibeth Salazar, at their apartment on the 300 block of Rhode Island Street in the early morning hours of Aug. 26. She was found on the floor of a bedroom.

Prosecutors said police found Prieto in the bathroom with self-inflicted knife wounds. He was transported to ECMC, where he was arraigned on a second-degree murder charge.

If convicted, he faces 25 years to life in prison. He remains held without bail and will return to court on Oct. 28.
