Buffalo man arraigned for murder after allegedly killing his wife
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo man was arraigned Tuesday morning on one count of second-degree murder for allegedly killing his wife inside their apartment, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office said.
Officials said around 3:45 a.m. Monday, police responded to a reported domestic incident at their apartment on the 300 block of Rhode Island Street, where they found a 29-year-old female deceased at the scene.
Antonio Prieto, 46, is accused of intentionally causing his wife’s death by striking her with an axe while inside of their shared apartment, the district attorney’s office said. Prieto was also allegedly found with apparent self-inflicted knife wounds. He was taken to ECMC by ambulance where he remains in police custody.
Prieto is scheduled to return on Aug. 30 for a felony hearing and was held without bail. He faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison, if convicted of the highest charge.
