Buffalo man found guilty of murder

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo man was found guilty of second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon Wednesday, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Around 11:40 p.m. on June 18, 2022, 39-year-old Jonathan Whitsett intentionally shot the victim, 36-year-old William Cobb III, with an illegal gun inside of the defendant’s vehicle, which was parked near Manhattan Avenue in the City of Buffalo.

Officials said Cobb was transported in a private vehicle to ECMC where he later died from his injuries.

Whitsett faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison.

He is scheduled to be sentenced July 24 and remains held without bail.
