Buffalo man sentenced for fatal shooting in Leroy neighborhood

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo man has been sentenced for the murder of another man in Buffalo’s Leroy neighborhood in June 2022, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office said Wednesday.

39-year-old Jonathan Whitsett was sentenced to 35 years to life in prison. Around 11:40 p.m. on June 18, 2022, Whitsett shot and killed 36-year-old William Cobb, III with an illegal gun on Manhattan Avenue. Cobb was transported to ECMC where he was later pronounced dead.

Whitsett was convicted of second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon in May.
