The Buffalo News no longer printing on major holidays
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Buffalo News has stopped printing its newspaper on major holidays.
Readers found themselves out of luck this Independence Day. The Buffalo News will also no longer be published on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Jon Harris, President of the Buffalo Newspaper Guild, has since released the following statement: “The decision for The Buffalo News to no longer print on holidays is unfortunately a sign of where the newspaper industry is at and a reflection of more people getting their news online and on their phones. We understand the company’s decision to no longer print on holidays, even if we disagree with it and believe our good-paying subscribers deserve more content, not less. ”
Last year, The Buffalo News cut 130 jobs.
Once situated in Buffalo, their printing operations now take place in Cleveland, Ohio.
