Buffalo woman arraigned on murder charge after Wade Avenue shooting

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo woman was arraigned Monday morning on one count of second-degree murder after allegedly fatally shooting a man in October, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Officials said at 6 p.m. on Oct. 30, police responded to a reported shooting at Wade Avenue near Holden Street where a 39-year-old man was found dead at the scene.

Latrice Purdie, 29, is accused of intentionally shooting the man, identified by police as Akeem Cortez, which resulted in his death, the attorney’s office said.

Purdie faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison, if convicted of the highest charge. She is scheduled to return for a felony hearing on Nov. 22 and was held without bail.
