PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A final design for the new Burnside Bridge was selected and recommended by the Earthquake Ready Burnside Bridge committee at a meeting Thursday night.
Following a vote by the committee, with only two people voting outright against the design, the committee chose to recommend the Inverted-Y design.
Out of six total designs, the bridge committee voted on the final three, the V tower, inverted-Y tower, and braced basket-handle arch.

During the vote, the committee was able to give a thumbs up for strong agreement, thumbs sideways for “could live with it” or a thumbs down meaning strong disagreement.
The braced basket-handle bridge bridge received the least favorable votes with only five giving a thumbs up or a thumb sideways.
The V tower came close to passing with 11 favorable votes, however, they needed over 75% to agree in order to recommend the design.
Lastly, the inverted-Y tower passed with 14 favorable votes and only two votes against it.
Now that a design has been recommended, the committee won’t be meeting again until November when the next steps will begin.
