California National Guard activated for Line Fire evacuation areas in San Bernardino County
National Guard service workers will be used for additional security in Line Fire evacuation areas, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department announced Monday.
The use of National Guard service workers will allow for the county and municipal law enforcement agencies to be used for active mandatory evacuations if it becomes necessary, according to sheriff’s officials.
Guard service workers will be available for deployment in the next operational period at 7 p.m. Monday.

On Monday, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department announced that National Guard service workers would be used for additional security in Line Fire evacuation areas.
Gov. Gavin Newsom on Monday announced that the California National Guard will support the state’s ongoing response to the Line Fire in San Bernardino County, Cal Fire reported.
Through its activation and assignment on Thursday, Sept. 12, and authorized under the Line Fire state of emergency, the National Guard will deploy:
Four UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters for water bucket-dropping operations
Two C-130 aircraft with Modular Airborne Fire Fighting Systems
Four 20-person hand crews .
One military police company to support the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department with traffic control points in evacuated areas.
The Line Fire has burned more than 23,000 acres since it started on Sept. 5, near Highland and began moving into the San Bernardino Mountains toward Running Springs and Angelus Oaks.
On Sept. 6, authorities issued an evacuation warning. As the fire spread, evacuation orders soon followed.

As of 10 a.m. Monday, an evacuation order was in effect for the communities of Angelus Oaks, Seven Oaks and all campgrounds and cabins in the area, sheriff’s officials stated.
At the start of the Line Fire, Sheriff Shannon Dicus said he was in contact with the law enforcement branch of the State Office of Emergency Services.

During those conversations, Gov. Gavin Newsom and California Office of Emergency Services activated the National Guard which is staged at the Ontario National Guard Armory.
Line Fire school closures: Some districts cancel classes as wildfire spreads
The California National Guard was mobilized in March 2023 when San Bernardino Mountains residents were stranded and needed supplies after record-breaking snowfall hit the area the month before.
