Capitol Wellness Solutions opens new medical marijuana dispensary in Baton Rouge
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Thousands lined up on Friday, Sept. 20 waiting to walk inside Cookies by Capitol Wellness, a new medical marijuana dispensary in Baton Rouge.
“Today is the biggest day in Louisiana for medical marijuana,” Pharm. D, CEO and Capitol Wellness Solutions Founder Randy J. Mire said.
“We’ve been waiting for this day for years,” Mire said.
Louisiana’s first licensed medical marijuana dispensary is now open at 1940 O’Neal Lane. Mire said the program helps patients in need.
“I can’t tell you, daily, the patients that come through here for insomnia, anxiety or chronic pain. People pulling up front seeing when we were opening, and the stories that they give you about how we’ve helped them get off their opiates, not taking as many pain pills, sleep better at night, not have anxiety is absolutely amazing,” Mire said.
Berner, a rapper, founded Cookies. He was the first cannabis entrepreneur featured on the cover of Forbes magazine. Berner partnered with Capitol Wellness Solutions. Cookies is a brand that helps produce quality cannabis.
“Berner is very particular about producing the best quality and he is holding the growers accountable in the state to improve that quality,” Mire said.
“I feel blessed to be able to leave my mark. I had a scare with cancer a few years back and I was able to shake that. It helped me keep my weight down. It helped me deal with the nausea. And so that’s why medical cannabis is so important. If it ever becomes recreational here in Louisiana, it’s still a medicine. People need to understand that and remember that it’s always going to be a medicine first,” Berner said.
“This brand brings so much awareness to people once they hear Cookies, they will realize medical marijuana is alive in the state,” Mire said.
