(KRON) — A longtime hot dog spot in the East Bay is closing after eight decades. Caspers Hot Dogs is closing its Hayward location next month, the business said in a news release on Tuesday.

The last day for Caspers, located at 951 C St., will be on Saturday, July 13. That restaurant has been in business since the 1940s. It is one of a handful of Caspers located across the Bay Area.

Caspers will still have another restaurant open in Hayward on Foothill Boulevard. Four other locations across the East Bay remain open: Pleasant Hill, Dublin, Richmond and Oakland.

The owners said they were faced with a difficult decision to close this Hayward location but called it a necessary move to strengthen “the health and future sustainability of the company.”

“We are deeply grateful to our loyal, multi-generational customers who have supported us over the decades,” co-owner and general manager Ron Dorian, grandson of founders Ardam and Stephen Beklian, said in a press release. “We appreciate the memories our customers have made in downtown Hayward and encourage them to visit our Caspers location just a mile up the road on Foothill Blvd. to continue their traditions and create new ones for generations to come.”

Caspers is a family-owned and operated hot dog chain based in the Bay Area. It opened its first restaurant 90 years ago in 1934.

Last year, Caspers shut down its restaurant in Walnut Creek, according to Yelp. It was located at 1280 Newell Place, which is now occupied by Jersey Mike’s Subs.

“We also want to express our sincere appreciation to our employees who provided friendly service and exceptional dedication in making Caspers C Street a favorite among local Hayward residents,” said co-owner and general manager Paul Rustigian, grandson of founders Rose and Paul Agajan.
