Cat given treament following duplex fire in Oconto, no other injuries reported

OCONTO, Wis. (WFRV) – Authorities in Oconto say one cat had to be treated for smoke inhalation following a fire Monday evening that resulted in no other reported injuries.

According to a release from the Oconto Fire & Rescue, crews responded at 5:37 p.m. to a home on the 500 block of Brazeau Avenue for reports of a fire and visible white smoke.

Once on the scene, Officials say they found a wood-framed two-story duplex with heavy white smoke and small flames coming out of the back corner of the home.

15 agencies respond to fire inside of a Wisconsin strip mall

Crews with hoses were able to extinguish the fire from the outside first before working on the interior of the home’s first floor.

No first responders or civilians were hurt in the incident as all of the home’s occupants had evacuated prior to the arrival of fire officials, however, one cat did need to be treated on the scene for smoke inhalation.

At this time, no other details are available and an investigation into the fire is ongoing.
