CBS News EVP Of Communications Christa Robinson To Depart Network Later This Month

Christa Robinson, who has overseen communications for CBS News for the past nine years, is departing the network later this month.

Robinson, who serves as executive vice president of CBS News and Stations, wrote in a memo to staffers today, “I’ve been fortunate to work alongside four CBS News presidents and know first-hand the positive impact that the dedicated people throughout this organization make every day. As we transition to a new executive team amidst other business changes, I welcome this opportunity to determine the next step in my career.”

Chris Ender, executive VP of communications for CBS, wrote, “During her time here, Christa has elevated CBS News’ biggest moments and deftly navigated the division through its biggest challenges. Her strategies and guidance have benefitted countless programs, on-air talent and senior executives, as well as breaking news events, political conventions and election nights.”

Robinson previously led communications and public relations at CNN Worldwide, and and was chief communications officer for Tribune Media.

Her departure is the latest in a series of changes at the network. Ingrid Ciprián-Matthews announced last month that she would be stepping down as president of CBS News, but would continue to serve as a senior editorial adviser through the election. Her last day in that post is today.

Earlier this week, CBS Evening News anchor Norah O’Donnell announced that she was stepping down after the election, and will transition to a new role as senior correspondent. The network unveiled a revamp of the evening broadcast on Thursday, with 60 Minutes executive producer Bill Owens taking on added responsibilities overseeing the newscast as supervising producer. John Dickerson and Maurice DuBois will anchor the newscast from New York, with Face the Nation moderator Margaret Brennan a regular presence leading political coverage from Washington, D.C.

The changes come amid cutbacks across CBS News parent Paramount Global. Last month, it announced a merger agreement with Skydance Media. Paramount Global’s current leadership trio announced a $500 million cost-cutting plan in June.

Robinson wrote in her note, “Given the challenges facing the news industry, there are few things more important than supporting the critical work of journalists in today’s world. I’m extremely proud of the prominent role our team has played in elevating and amplifying CBS News and Stations’ journalism, charting our digital future, and all that we have accomplished together. You can be sure that I’ll be rooting for you and cheering you on always.”
