Celebrating HBCU week at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS NOW) — Queen City News Now sat down with Dr. Valerie Kinloch, the 15th President of Johnson C. Smith University, to discuss the school’s growth in celebration of HBCU Week.

Historically Black colleges and universities produce nearly 20 percent of Black graduates in the country, however, the institutions are historically underfunded.

Fresh off the heels of a recent visit to Philadelphia for the National HBCU Week Conference, “Raising the Bar: Where Excellence and Opportunity Meet,” Dr. Kinloch highlighted efforts JCSU has made over the past year to increase funding and student recruitment.
