CENTRAL, La. (BRPROUD) – The Central Community School System is waiting for the campus halls to be filled with staff and students as summer vacation ends.

“You want to be ready to open those doors and the kids come in and be ready to embrace them. So that’s the feeling, right now,” said the Principal of Central High School Brandon LaGroue.

“The first days are like Christmas Day, we open the doors. It just brings our buildings to life and brings life into our schools,” said Superintendent of Central Community School Dr. Jason Fountain.

Preparing for this school year, Fountain said this year’s motto is “We believe.”

“I think that’s such a positive statement as we start this school year because we believe in every kid,” he said.

The school system programs and initiatives for students were recognized with the Louisiana Models of Excellence Award through the Louisiana Department of Education last year. The mission continues to help build students for success, said Fountain.

“We also have this program called Capturing Kids Hearts, which is our social-emotional learning program. This is all about trying to build relationships with our kids. That’s the that’s the key to this whole deal,” he said.

“Our goal is not just to teach academics. It’s not just to be a school. We continue to enhance those. It’s is all about reaching these kids at a heart level,” he said.

Another accomplishment for the school has been the nomination of 2025’s Louisiana Principal of the Year. One of nine finalists who range in principals from all over the state is LaGroue. He said parents can expect one of the best years yet for their children.

“I’ve been here about 20 years. I feel like this is probably the best overall staff and collection of people that we have. And we’ve put in a lot of a lot of work getting ready this summer. So we’re excited to come back. We’re ready for you. Come on,” said LaGroue.

Fountain also said besides top-notch recognitions, important measures for the safety of students can also be expected from resource officers.

“I would say the greatest thing I think we do in terms of safety is that we have a school resource officer at every school. When you have that car out front, I think that of course does a lot,” he said. “We’ve worked very diligently to make sure that we have a single entrance for each school. I feel like we are as safe as we can be. We’re constantly looking at that. We’re constantly trying to enhance our safety measures.”

Fountains has one special message as parents prepare for the first day of school.

“The main thing is that I want people to know that we’re here for them. We’re here for this community. And again, we want to make this community proud,” he said.
