Central police officer, citizen struck by a pickup truck Sunday morning; suspect arrested
CENTRAL, La. (BRPROUD) — An officer with the Central Police Department was hit by a vehicle on Sunday morning.
According to the police department, Officer Tim Gilbert was conducting a routine traffic stop on Central Thruway before a Ford F-150 pickup truck heading north struck Gilbert and other citizens on the scene on the passenger side window. The driver of the pickup truck did not stop after the crash.
Another Central Police Officer was able to stop the Ford F-150 near the intersection of Central Thruway and Greenwell Springs Road. The officer noted they saw signs of impairment in the driver, stated the police.
Louisiana State Police were notified to take over the investigation as a Central police officer was involved.
Gilbert and the citizens were not seriously injured, according to CPD.
Louisiana State Police arrested the suspect, Dylan Pizzolato, on charges of DWI, careless operation, possession of alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle, vehicular negligent injuring and passing a parked emergency vehicle.
