These Champaign-Urbana Pride Fest street closures may cause delays

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Several streets in Urbana will be closed on Saturday for the city’s upcoming Pride Fest parade.

On Sept. 21 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. motorists should avoid these streets on their commute:

  • West Main Street from Main Street/Springfield Avenue to South Broadway Avenue

  • South Race Street from West Elm Street to one block north of West Main Street

  • Water Street between North Broadway Avenue and North Vine Street

Annual CU Pride Fest to return this weekend

West Elm Street between South Cedar Street and South Race Street will be closed from noon to 8 p.m. These street closures will allow for vendors and attendees to safely participate in Pride Fest activities.

The Pride Fest parade is scheduled to begin around 1 p.m. Additional road closures for the parade will begin around 12:45 p.m. to approximately 2:30 p.m.

  • Illinois Street between South Vine Street and South Race Street

  • South Race Street between West Illinois Street and West Elm Street

  • West Elm Street from South Cedar Street to South Broadway Avenue

  • Broadway Avenue from East Elm Street to East Water Street

Parking will also be temporarily unavailable in several lots on Illinois and Water Street. Lot 24 on Illinois Street and lots 5 and 9 will be closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.

The City of Urbana Public Works Department approved these temporary closures by granting a special event permit application for the United Pride Center of Champaign County Pride Fest.
