Changes coming to plan to build Costco, Dick’s House of Sport in Amherst
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Changes are coming to a proposed plan for the Amherst Commerce Center, which includes a Costco and a Dick’s House of Sport.
The Amherst Town Planning Board approved the changes at a meeting on Wednesday night. The changes include moving the gas pumps at the future Costco, which is set to be located on North Bailey Avenue, to the back of the site, allowing the front to be used for parking.
As for the Dick’s House of Sports, the store is set to grow from one story to two. In addition, the sports field is also being moved to be along North Bailey.
The Costco location would be the first in Western New York. The project was first announced in 2022, but little progress has been made on construction. Work is underway at the site, but it is unknown when it is set to open.

The closest Dick’s House of Sport is in Rochester. It differs from a standard Dick’s Sporting Goods location in that it is not just a store, but it also has amenities for athletic training, such as rock climbing walls, multi-sport cages, golf bays, and outdoor fields.
