Charlamagne Files Cease And Desist Order Against Donald Trump Over Campaign Ad
Charlamagne Tha God has issued a cease and desist order to Donald Trump in regards to a campaign ad attacking Presidential opponent Kamala Harris’ stance on funding surgical procedures for transgender prisoners using tax payers’ dollars.
In the ad, a clip of Charlamagne speaking on the matter was taken out of context to appear as if he was in opposition of U.S. Vice President Harris’ declaration that transgender inmates should receive the “necessary care” required in their transition.
The radio host and New York Times bestselling author has since issued legal notice to Trump demanding he remove the portion of the campaign ad featuring his voice, immediately.
“Cease and desist been sent,” the South Carolina native announced in response to backlash over the misleading remarks in the ad. “Since when does Trump care about what’s legal!?”
In the original audio, Charlamagne spoke on his initial reaction to the campaign ad, which he felt was ultimately effective in swaying his perception of the matter.
“I’ll tell you what, that ad they was running during the football games this weekend claiming the vice president supports funding gender transition surgeries for all prison inmates and migrants in the U.S., that was nuts,” Charlamagne said at the time.
“I don’t know if it was the backdrop of football, but when you hear the narrator say Kamala supports taxpayer-funded sex changes for prisoners, that one line I was like, ‘Hell no, I don’t want my taxpayer dollars going to that.’”
He continued, adding, “That ad was effective. It literally said that Kamala supports taxpayer-funded sex changes for prisoners, and it talks about how, you know, she supports funding gender transition surgeries for all prison inmates and migrants in the United States. That ad was impactful.”
Vice President Harris’ advocacy for transgender rights has been clear throughout her campaign, as she has called for protection of transgender individuals from discrimination and access to healthcare and other social services.
“It is important that transgender individuals who rely on the state for care receive the treatment they need, which includes access to treatment associated with gender transition,” Harris told the ACLU in 2019.
“I support policies ensuring that federal prisoners and detainees are able to obtain medically necessary care for gender transition, including surgical care, while incarcerated or detained,” she continued. “Transition treatment is a medical necessity, and I will direct all federal agencies responsible for providing essential medical care to deliver transition treatment.”
