Child, 2, in critical condition after east Columbus shooting
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A two-year-old boy is hospitalized after a shooting in east Columbus Sunday night.
According to Columbus police, the shooting happened at approximately 9 p.m. on the 4000 block of Carlton Avenue on the east side of Columbus.
Boyfriend of woman missing for 23 years remains primary suspect, deputies say
A Columbus police sergeant at the scene said the shooting happened as the boy was outside with his mother when a car drove by and fired shots. The suspect immediately fled the scene, police said.
“You obviously know your involvement here,” Columbus Police Sgt. Joe Albert said to the suspects. “You might not have intended to shoot a two-year-old, but you did shoot a two-year-old. We’re asking you to do the right thing — call and turn yourself in. Our detectives will gladly come and speak with you and figure out the story. But do the right thing. This is a two-year-old little boy who did not deserve this for anything.”
The child is listed in critical condition at an area hospital and was undergoing surgery Sunday night. Police said because of the severity of the injuries, the homicide unit will be investigating the shooting.
Police are looking for a four-door grey or silver sedan and are continuing to investigate at the scene. Officers are canvasing the neighborhood, going door-to-door trying to uncover any leads.
