Child drowns at Portage Lakes swim beach: Fire Chief
NEW FRANKLIN, Ohio (WJW) – A child reported missing at the Portage Lakes State Park was found in approximately four feet of water and did not survive, according to the New Franklin Fire Department.
According to a press release signed by the chief, at about 2:30 p.m. on Friday, first responders were called to the park’s swim beach.

“While it was believed that the child was not in the water, fire personnel, along with the assistance of volunteers, initiated a human chain to search and clear the swim water,” read the release.
That’s when the child was found.
Saturday’s sunset is a milestone for the season
“Resuscitation efforts were immediately initiated, and the child was transported to Summa Barberton Hospital. Unfortunately, the child did not survive,” stated the release. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family at this time.”
Details on the child’s age and gender were not immediately released.
