Chuckey-Doak Middle School building more classroom space
AFTON, Tenn. (WJHL) – Chuckey Doak Middle School is getting an additional eight classrooms added to the school building, and construction is near completion.
“We’re going to make it a new eighth-grade wing,” said Tammy Swinney, principal at Chuckey Doak Middle School. “Right now, our eighth grade is currently upstairs on the top floor, seventh below and sixth grade is outside.”
The additional building is connected to the school, which will allow all students 6th-8th to have classes inside, eliminating the need for students to transition to classrooms in the mobile homes/annex outside.

“We have a lot of movement here at the middle school, about every 40 minutes we have someone moving,” said Swinney. “We will get to move away from a lot of that outside transition which takes more manpower.”
The eight new classrooms are bigger and measure 30 ft. by 30 ft., giving more space to the students and the staff. As for the mobile homes, those will be moved out.
“They’ll be making a new parking lot outside and resurfacing,” said Swinney. “We’re all very excited about the move.”
Swinney told News Channel 11 that she hopes they can make the transition into the new building by the start of the next school year.
