City of Las Vegas easing water restrictions for restaurants, car washes

LAS VEGAS, N.M. (KRQE) – The City of Las Vegas is easing water restrictions for restaurants and commercial car washes. The city implemented restrictions in June when heavy rains hit the Hermits Peak Calf Canyon Fire burn scar and washed soot and debris into the city’s water supply.

The city said they are able to ease up the restrictions because water reserves have been stabilized. The new guidelines are as follows:

  • Restaurants: Effective immediately, restaurants can operate at full capacity without using disposable paper products such as plates, cups, and plastic ware. While it is suggested to use these items to conserve water, it is no longer required.

  • Commercial Car Washes: May resume limited operations during normal hours on Sundays, Mondays, and Wednesdays only, starting Monday, August 5, 2024.

Laundromats will continue limited operations on the following days: Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays only. The city is still asking all residents to conserve water as officials work to get the pre-water treatment plant operational.
