‘Tornado curbside pickup’ to take place this weekend
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — City officials, including Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown, gave an update on the EF-1 tornado that touched down early Monday afternoon.
The tornado ripped through the city at 90 mph, flipping over cars and leaving debris all over Western Buffalo. Around 1,000 people lost power. Emergency services were quick to respond to the scene to shut down roads and remove impacted trees. However, efforts are still ongoing.
Mayor Brown said Tuesday that a “tornado curbside pickup” will take place this weekend. Those in impacted areas, including Niagara St., Prospect Ave., and Whitney Place are asked to put their debris out on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday to be picked up on Monday by the DPW.
A weekly clean sweep will take place in the area on Wednesday.
In addition, Mayor Brown says that he is working closely with Sen. Chuck Schumer to identify possible federal funding for those have suffered damage, both residents and business owners. It is unknown if any will be available at this time.
All streets are back open and power is restored for most people.
