City of San Diego launches second year of child care benefits for employees

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The city of San Diego is currently accepting applications to help employees with child care expenses.

The city announced the launch of the second year of its child care benefit program Friday, which is meant to reimburse eligible employees for child care costs. Payments were funded through a $2 million federal grant.

San Diego’s housing inventory grows, prices drop significantly

Last year, 230 city employees applied for the program and 173 were selected.

Employees who participated in the inaugural launch of the program must submit a new application for the second year. More information can be found on the city’s Office of Child and Youth Success webpage.

San Diego Registrar of Voters in search of more poll workers

In order to be eligible to apply, individuals must have an annual household gross income less than 200% of the state median income, based on family size per year and be either a full or part-time permanent city employee.

Employees may get paid between $200 to $1,200 per dependent based on their family need ranked by household income. In addition, children under care must be 12 years or younger in order for their guardian to qualify for the program.

Payments are made monthly and deposited directly to the employee’s child care provider starting Oct. 1.
