Clark County finds 1,600 uncounted mail-in ballots in secure vault
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Clark County elections officials discovered more than 1,600 uncounted mail-in ballots Thursday, more than a week after Election Day, a spokesperson said.
The 1,608 mail-in ballots were secured in a vault but not processed until Thursday, a spokesperson said.
“These mail ballots have now been tabulated and counted,” the spokesperson said in a statement. “This correction did not change the outcome in any race. The unofficial results have now been updated and reviewed by the registrar and are ready for certification. The county remains committed to safe and secure elections and as a result will be issuing an audit in collaboration with the State of Nevada, Secretary of State’s Office.”
In the county’s closest race – the Ward 2 North Las Vegas city councilperson election – Councilwoman Ruth Garcia-Anderson’s lead dropped from nine votes to eight.
Nevada law requires counties to certify their election results 10 days after Election Day. County commissioners unanimously certified the results Friday.
Clark County voters can see if their mail-in votes were tabulated on the county’s election website or using BallotTrax.
