CNN Lands Kamala Harris-Tim Walz Interview, Their First Since Becoming New Democratic Ticket

CNN has landed the first interview with Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz since they became the Democratic presidential and vice presidential nominees.

Dana Bash will conduct the interview in Georgia on Thursday, with a primetime special planned for that evening, the network announced Tuesday.

Harris has not done a network sit-down interview since she launched her presidential campaign after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race on July 21. Nor has Walz since she chose him as her running mate.

Donald Trump has made an issue about Harris’ lack of media appearances, claiming that she has hidden behind scripted moments assisted by a Teleprompter. Harris has answered questions from reporters between events, but she said earlier this month that she planned to get a sit-down interview on the books by the end of the month.

Bash is likely to ask Harris about her policy positions, and how they have changed since her 2019 presidential campaign, which ended before the primary season began that cycle.

The major networks had sought the first interview with Harris and Walz, but the campaign had waited until after the Democratic National Convention last week before committing to one. Harris also faces a September 10 presidential debate with Trump, to be sponsored by ABC News.

Bash co-moderated the presidential debate between Trump and Biden in late June, an event that ended disastrously for the president and led to calls for him to step aside in the race.
