Cobra Kai star Ralph Macchio has weighed in on the possibility of Hilary Swank making a cameo appearance in season six.

The Karate Kid spin-off returned to Netflix on Thursday (July 18) for its final season, with Macchio reprising his role of Daniel LaRusso.

During the show's Los Angeles premiere earlier this week, the actor spoke to Entertainment Tonight to tease the returns of several famous faces for the new season – though nothing has been confirmed.

"I can't mention names but there might be one or two," he said.

"Or there are some [people] that have shown up in a smaller capacity that I would like to see in a larger capacity."

Many viewers have expressed their interest in seeing Swank return to the franchise, after playing Mr Miyagi's protégée Julie Pierce in the 1984 film The Next Karate Kid.

Reacting to the fan's hopes, Macchio cryptically replied: "Who doesn't, you know? And that's the one piece that would be interesting, you know?"

The news comes after the show's bosses Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg previously addressed Swank's potential return in the final instalment.

"We are fans of Hilary Swank," Hurwitz told Deadline, before Schlossberg added: "Anyone from the Miyagi-verse could potentially be in the final season."

Cobra Kai's final outing follows Daniel and karate sensei Johnny (William Zabka) as they train their students for the Sekai Taikai, while also delving further into Mr Miyagi's secret past.

During an exclusive interview with Digital Spy, Macchio recently said he's pleased with how the storyline plays out, adding: "I think we do a really nice job arcing over 10 episodes, even more than that.

"In season six, it was important to find something fresh in that way and I'm really excited about the fans seeing all that and how that comes in for a landing."

Following the first episodes landing on the streaming service, the show has landed an impressive 82% score on Rotten Tomatoes (from 17 reviews).

Many critics have praised the show for maintaining its "charm" and "humour", which leaves you "wanting more" in time for part two – which lands on November 28.

Cobra Kai seasons 1-5 and season 6 part 1 are available to watch now on Netflix.
