Colbert County High principal fired in May wins appeal against school board

COLBERT COUNTY, Ala (WHNT) — A Colbert County Court ruled in favor of a former high school principal after he appealed his firing by the Colbert County School Board, court records show.

The court found Thursday that the school board failed to provide Colbert County High School Principal Melcha Satchel with proper notice and failed to show where he willfully violated policy before he was fired back in May.

Satchel was fired during a called school board meeting on May 10. He chose to appeal that firing, leading to the matter going before the Colbert County Circuit Court.

The matter went before Judge Mitchell D. Hays starting Monday. He ruled in favor of Satchel Thursday, according to court documents.

Colbert County School Board attorney Jon McGee told New 19 last month that the decision to cancel Satchel’s contract was due to him sending a student to an alternative school without notifying the board or superintendent.
