Columbus forecast shows hot temperatures, including some in the 90s this week

Get those handheld fans ready, we're in for a hot week in Columbus.

A relatively cool start to the week will give way to a scorching Thursday when the high is expected to be 90. It'll stay hot on Friday when the high is expected to be 88 and cool down a bit for Saturday with a high of 85.

The heat doesn't stop there; it'll climb back up to 92 degrees on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington's weekly forecast.

There's also a lot of sunny days in the forecast, meaning there will be no clouds to shield the city from the sun's UV rays.

  • Tuesday: It'll be relatively cool and sunny with a high near 76.

  • Tuesday Night: Temperatures will dip down to 55 and it'll be partly cloudy.

  • Wednesday: The heat is beginning to ratchet up; it'll be sunny with a high near 83.

  • Wednesday Night: It'll be mostly clear with a low around 63.

  • Thursday: This is the hottest day of the workweek with a high near 90. It'll also be sunny.

  • Thursday Night: It'll be partly cloudy with a low around 69.

  • Friday: There's a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Otherwise, it'll be mostly sunny with a high near 88. The chance of precipitation is 30%.

  • Friday Night: There's a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 p.m. It'll be mostly clear with a low around 63. The chance of precipitation is 30%.

  • Saturday: It'll be sunny with a high near 85.

  • Saturday Night: It'll be mostly clear with a low around 61.

  • Sunday: This is the hottest day of the week with a high near 92. It'll also be sunny.

How to stay safe in the heat

While this week's scorchers won't rise to the level of "extreme heat," the National Weather Service has a few tips for enduring a heat wave.

  • Stay in air conditioning and out of the sun if possible

  • Check on friends, family, neighbors and pets

  • Drink plenty of water

  • Take breaks and use a buddy system if working outdoors
