Comedian, actor Bill Burr to perform in Happy Valley this fall. What to know about tickets
Emmy- and Grammy-nominated comedian Bill Burr is heading to Happy Valley this fall.
The 55-year-old Massachusetts native is set to perform at Penn State’s Bryce Jordan Center at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, the venue announced Monday morning. Student tickets (and presales tickets) go on sale 10 a.m. Wednesday, while tickets for the general public will be available through Ticketmaster starting 10 a.m. Friday.
Non-student tickets range between $49 and $89, an increase of $10 from the last time Burr performed at the BJC, in September 2021.
Burr is a decorated stand-up comedian who’s found success as an actor, podcaster and filmmaker. “Rolling Stone” magazine ranked him in 2017 as the 17th-best all-time comedian, ahead of such legends as Mitch Hedberg (20), Eddie Murphy (25) and Rodney Dangerfield (26). And he played memorable roles in AMC series “Breaking Bad” (as one of Saul Goodman’s hired hands) and Disney+ series “The Mandalorian” (as Migs Mayfield).
“Rolling Stone” described his comedy thusly: “He loves coming across like the clueless meathead ranting in the corner of the bar who — to the horror of the faint-at-heart — makes more and more sense as he rants into the night.”
Burr’s accolades are plentiful. He has released seven Netflix comedy specials, most recently last year’s “Live at Red Rocks.” He hosted Saturday Night Live in 2020. He’s been a regular of late-night hosts such as Conan O’Brien, Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel. And he also created and co-wrote the Netflix show, “F is for Family.”
He earned a Grammy Award nomination for “Best Comedy Album” in 2019 for “Paper Tiger.” And he received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination in 2021 for “Outstanding Actor in a Short-form Series” for comedy series “Immoral Compass.”
Pennsylvania natives might also remember him from a legendary 2006 rant against a hostile Philadelphia crowd, where he insulted the city for more than 10 minutes — and somehow won the crowd over in the process.
According to Burr’s website, he is currently scheduled to appear just one other time in the Keystone State during his tour. He has a date scheduled at PPL Center in Allentown on July 6. His most recent date at Penn State is sandwiched between an Oct. 3 appearance in Syracuse, New York, and an Oct. 5 performance in Ontario.
