Donald Trump has always had gall, to the point that it is almost numbing for those who do not support him and don’t want him to be President Of The United States again. The shock comes from his supporters who echo his controversial statements, like comedian Tony Hinchcliffe, who spoke at the former President’s rally at Madison Square Garden this past weekend.

Hinchcliffe was the first of 30 speakers who preceded Trump on Sunday (Oct. 27) and he set the tone in a disparaging way toward Latinos. “I welcome migrants to the United States of America with open arms,” he said, per Rolling Stone. “And by open arms I mean like this,” he continued before making a “go away” gesture with his hands.

“These Latinos, they love making babies, too. Just know that they do,” the Kill Tony actor added, per NBC News. “There’s no pulling out. They don’t do that. They c*m inside, just like they did to our country.” He specifically called out Puerto Rico, calling it “a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean.” The final nail in the coffin, or knife in the fruit rather, was when he joked about carving watermelons with a “Black buddy” while pointing to a Black person in the audience. Check out the full speech below.

While Tony Hinchcliffe may have entertained the rally attendees, some politicians and celebrities were not amused. Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez held a Twitch livestream on Sunday and reacted to what Hinchcliffe had to say. “Who is this jackwad?” Walz asked. “People in Puerto Rico are citizens. They pay taxes and serve in the military, almost at a higher rate than anybody else.”

Hinchcliffe responded to Walz via X (formerly Twitter) and attempted to lessen the sting of his jokes. “Wild that a vice presidential candidate would take time out of his ‘busy schedule’ to analyze a joke taken out of context to make it seem racist,” he wrote. “I love Puerto Rico and vacation there. I made fun of everyone… watch the whole set. I’m a comedian Tim… might be time to change your tampon.” Notably, Hinchcliffe has a history of racial slurs as he was dropped by his talent agency in 2021 for calling Asian comedian Peng Dang a “ch*nk.”

“It’s super upsetting to me,” AOC added on the livestream before reminding viewers that she and her family are Puerto Rican. “The thing that is so messed up that I wish more people understood is that the things that they do in Puerto Rico are a testing ground for the policies and the horrors that they unveil in working class communities across the United States. When you have some a-hole calling Puerto Rico ‘floating garbage,’ know that that’s what they think about you.”

Bad Bunny, a proud Puerto Rican, took to Instagram to express his support for Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris. He reshared a video where she described how she plans to support Puerto Rico and reiterated how Donald Trump mistreated them. He even edited a clip where she says “I will never forget what Donald Trump did” and reposted it three times, each post more zoomed in than the previous one. Ricky Martin shared Hinchcliffe’s comments on his Instagram story and wrote, “This is what they think of us.”
