Commission nominates 6 as potential successors to retiring Polk County Judge Robert Fegers
The Judicial Nominating Commission for the 10th Circuit has nominated six candidates for an opening on the Polk County Court.
The commission interviewed eight applicants Monday morning for the vacancy created by the pending retirement of Judge Robert Fegers, who plans to leave the bench on March 15. The commission nominated these candidates for consideration by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis:
Allison Fox, Bonde Johnson, Monica Smith, Jennifer Steimle, John Waters and Rachelle Williamson. Fox, Johnson, Smith and Williamson are assistant state attorneys with the 10th Judicial Circuit. Steimle is a child support hearing officer, and Waters is a Lakeland attorney.
Fegers is assigned to general civil court cases. It will be up to County Administrative Judge Stacie Kaylor to determine the assignment for his successor.
The Judicial Nominating Commission for the 10th Circuit comprises Nicholas T. Zbrzeznj (chair), Julie Landrigan Ball (vice-chair), Walter E. Engle III, Benjamin W. Hardin Jr., Krista Mahalak, Robert S. Swaine, Frederick J. Murphy Jr. and Lydia S. Zbrzeznj.
