How can I confirm my ballot was counted in Wisconsin? Here's how to look up voter history

Voters in Wisconsin who are attempting to track their ballot after Election Day will see that the state's online voter information portal is no longer displaying tracking information from the Nov. 5 presidential election.

However, that doesn't mean the Wisconsin Election Commission didn't receive your absentee ballot, Riley Vetterkind, WEC public information officer, said in an email. Here's a look at the process to certify election results and post participation data to Wisconsin online voter information portal, myvote.wi.gov.

Why can voters no longer track absentee ballots from the Nov. 5 election?

The process to record voter participation is a separate process from recording when an absentee ballot is returned, said Vetterkind.

The myvote.wi.gov "Track My Ballot" feature is designed to track your absentee ballot for the next scheduled election, not the election that's already taken place. Voters who are attempting to use the "Track My Ballot" feature now will see the tracker for the 2025 Spring Election.

How can I confirm my ballot was counted in Wisconsin?

Voters looking to confirm their ballot was counted in Wisconsin can find that information under the "My Voter Info" portal on the myvote.wi.gov website.

The portal allows people to look up a record of participation in past elections after they submit a full name and date of birth that corresponds with a currently registered Wisconsin voter. It does not include information about who you voted for, but rather if and where you voted in each election.

When will voter data be updated online in Wisconsin?

It may take up to 45 days for your voter record to show up under the "MyVoter Info" portal.

"There's no need to worry if you don't immediately see your voter history for the Nov. 5 General Election," wrote Vetterkind.

Recording voter participating is largely a manual process, where clerk staff go page-by-page through each paper poll book and either scan barcodes associated with those who voted or manually mark their participation in the state registration database.

Larger municipalities often take more time to complete the process than smaller ones because of the volume of voter participation that must be recorded, said Vetterkind.

What is MyVote WI?

MyVote.wi.gov is the official state website for voter registration and information. It's run by the Wisconsin Elections Commission, which is the statewide board that maintains the voter database, gives guidance to local clerks, ensures compliance with election laws and other duties.
