Cooling shelters open in New Orleans as city faces dangerously high temperatures
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Dozens of cooling shelters will be open this weekend as New Orleans swelters through another wave of extreme heat.
This Saturday and Sunday, the city is expected to face “feels like” temperatures of 108 to 111 degrees, according to the City of New Orleans. This is due to the combination of heat and humidity.

The following cooling shelters will be open on Saturday, Aug. 17:
Rosa F. Keller Library & Community Center Library (4300 S. Broad Ave.): Saturday, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Robert E. Smith Library (6301 Canal Blvd.): Saturday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Mid-City Library (4140 Canal St.): Saturday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Nix Library (1401 S. Carrollton Ave.): Saturday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Children’s Resource Center Library (913 Napoleon Ave.): Saturday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Cita Dennis Hubbell Library (725 Pelican Ave.): Saturday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Algiers Regional Library (3014 Holiday Dr.): Saturday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Norman Mayer Library (3001 Gentilly Blvd.): Saturday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Alvar Library (913 Alvar St.): Saturday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Joe Brown Pool (5601 Read Blvd.): Saturday, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Gert Town Pool (3411 Broadway St.): Saturday, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Sanchez Center Pool (1616 Fats Domino Ave.): Saturday, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
The following outdoor pools will be open on Saturday:
Stallings Gentilly Pool (2700 Lapeyrouse St.): Saturday, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Lyons Pool (624 Louisiana Ave.): Saturday, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Federal City Pool (2220 Constitution St.): Saturday, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
On Sunday, Aug. 18, the Rosenwald Rec. Center at 1120 S. Broad St. will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Overnight heat relief will be available at:
Ozanam Inn, 2239 Poydras St.
The New Orleans Mission, 1130 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd.
Low Barrier Shelter, 1530 Gravier St.
Salvation Army, 4526 S. Claiborne Ave.
