Crews respond to boat blaze on Willamette River

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A boat that caught on fire in the middle of the Willamette River prompted a response from Portland Fire & Rescue late Thursday afternoon.

Just after 4:30 p.m., crews responded to the area south of the Hawthorne Bridge near OMSI on reports that a boat was on fire in the middle of the water.

Officials warn Round Lake has dangerously high algae bloom toxin

Crews managed to quickly put out the fire and learned a swimmer near the boat safely made it to shore.

No injuries were reported.

An investigation later determined the cause of the fire was an overturned candle.

No other details were immediately available.
