August is the time local government entities get down to the nitty-gritty of budgets and taxes.

By now those entities — cities, counties, school districts — have their property tax values from their appraisal districts and can plan how to spend money in the coming year.

The Wichita Appraisal District has a way for property owners to keep track of how they’re being affected every step of the way.

The website address is https://wichita.countytaxrates.com/tax.

“If you enter your property and hit view, it will take you to all the details of your property,” said Lisa Stephens-Musick, chief appraiser. “Up in the right-hand corner of the page it says, 'Subscribe to Notifications.' If you click and subscribe, every time something is added, you’re going to get an email notification."

Stephens said the site also includes information on tax rates, taxable values, public hearing dates and times, and a place to submit feedback.

She said people do not have to register for the notifications to be able to see their data, which includes property and tax information.

As of Wednesday, no final adopted taxes were listed on the Wichita County site because the entities were still working on their budgets.
