CW39 Jazz Houston celebrate 100 Birthday of Sarah Vaughan with community concert

Jazz is the backbone of music. And one of its greatest, Sarah Vaughan would have turned 100 years old this year. Jazz Houston is hosting a concert to celebrate the elegance and mastery of “The Divine One” on her centennial. Headlining this amazing performance is the iconic Grammy-Award winning vocalist Dianne Reeves and her trio, performing songs from her very own tribute to Ms Vaughan. Also, debuting in Houston Ekep Nkwelle with the Jazz Houston Orchestra, will be performing selections from the classic recording “Viva! Vaughan”, featuring Salsa-influenced sounds of the Great American Songbook. CW39 Anchor Sharron Melton talks with Vincent Gardner – Artistic Director and Co-Founder-- and Singer Ekep Nkwelle. She's a 25-year-old Cameroonian -American jazz vocalist- who received guidance from the Jazz Houston organization and is now the opening act for event.
