Decatur to knock down Wood Street buildings

DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — The City of Decatur is preparing to knock down a series of buildings.

The buildings at the corner at South Maffit & East Wood St. have been fenced in for demolition, city officials posted on Facebook. The city council unanimously approved demolition last year.

According to documents with the Decatur City Council, Steve’s Trucking is contracted to do the demolition for $119,499. Officials with the city said the funds for the project are coming from a private donor.

Removing those buildings with help revitalize the Johns Hill neighborhood and increase visibilty at the intersection, officials said. The city said the buildings have been unused for years.
